Mahindra unveils all-electric XUV400

Mahindra has officially revealed the all-electric XUV400 designed especially for the Indian market. The XUV400 is not a part of the ‘Born Electric’ series that Mahindra globally unveiled on August 15 last month. At the first glance, the Mahindra XUV400 looks similar to the eXUV300 concept showcased by Mahindra at AutoExpo 2020, but the electric SUV is noticeably bigger than the concept and comes with a few design tweaks.

Mahindra XUV400: Mahindra’s first all-electric SUV

The Mahindra XUV400 stands at dimensions of 4,200 x 1,821 x 1,634mm with a wheelbase of 2,600mm and a boot space of 378 litres. The closed-off grille features a unique X-patterned bronze design and features the Mahindra ‘Twin Peaks’ logo at the centre. The headlamps are similar to the eXUV300 concept but don’t extend all the way to the bumper. The bronze detailing can be found across the front fascia, including the bumper, which also houses a central air intake. The side profile looks similar to the XUV300, with the differentiating factor being the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The tail lamps have undergone a design tweak but the rear profile also looks quite similar to the XUV300.

Inside, the XUV400 carries a darker profile compared to its ICE sibling. The bronze detailing found on the exterior follows along in the interior as well. The Twin Peaks logo can be found on the steering as well. Apart from the colour profile, the interiors look pretty similar to the XUV300. The XUV400 will carry forward the same features as well. The 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system will run on the AdrenoX software, and the electric SUV will come equipped with climate control, an electric sunroof, smartphone connectivity, six airbags, and a host of other safety features. The Mahindra BlueSense Plus smartphone app offers 60+ connectivity functions.

Coming to the show stopper, the Mahindra XUV400 will be powered by a 39.4kWh battery pack. This battery pack powers an electric motor that can produce a maximum power of 150hp and 310Nm peak torque. The SUV can go from 0-100kmph in 8.3 seconds and has a top speed of 150kmph, as claimed by Mahindra. The battery pack can fully charge in 6.5 hours using a 7.2kW/32A outlet and 13 hours when using a 3.3kW/16A outlet. Using a DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 0-80% under 50 minutes. The range offered by Mahindra XUV400 is 456km, the best in its class as claimed by Mahindra.

The Mahindra XUV400 is available in five colour options – Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, and Infinity Blue. The price will be announced in January 2023 at the time of launch. Demo units for Mahindra dealerships will be shipped out by December. Upon launch, the Mahindra XUV400 will rival MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Hyundai Kona EV.
