Kia Clavis EV: First teaser takes the wraps off the electric MPV

The Kia Carens Clavis EV looks similar to its ICE sibling. The ICE version of the MPV has a shut-off front grille, which makes the difference even smaller. The all-electric version gets a slightly reworked bumper. Additionally, it gets aero-efficient alloy wheels with a dual-tone design. The charging port is located on the nose of the MPV, just below the LED strip connecting the two DRLs.

Inside, the Kia Carens Clavis EV flaunts a floating design. There’s added cabin space due to the lack of a gear lever. Kia has utilised this space by placing a wireless charging pad in the area. The twin 12.3-inch screens for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster have been carried forward from the ICE variant. The teaser also reveals a 7-seat layout for the electric MPV. It remains to be seen whether it will be offered in a 6-seat layout.

The battery size options have been kept under a lid so far. However, Kia has revealed that the Carens Clavis EV will offer a driving range of 490km on a single charge. It is rumoured that the MPV will use the same battery pack as the Creta Electric. If that is the case, then Carens Clavis EV’s driving range will exceed that of the Creta Electric by 17km. The latter comes in 2 battery pack options  – 42kWh and 51.4kWh.

The Kia Carens Clavis EV is also expected to share its powertrain with the Hyundai Creta Electric. The front-axle-mounted electric motor produces a maximum power output of 171hp and 255Nm of torque on the bigger battery variants. The 42kWh battery variants put out 135hp.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the ICE model of the Kia Carens Clavis start at Rs 11.50 lakh and go up to Rs 21.50 lakh. Its all-electric model will cost a significant premium. We expect the Kia Carens Clavis EV range to start at Rs 18 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, BYD eMax 7, Tata Curvv EV, and MG Windsor EV.
