BYD eMax 7 MPV to launch in India on October 8

BYD India has announced the launch date for the eMax 7 MPV. The BYD eMax 7 is a successor to the e6 MPV. It is set to launch in India on October 8. The eMax 7 was showcased globally at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show in July 2024. The powertrain details of the India-spec model have not been revealed yet. The automaker will start shipping the MPV to buyers after Diwali.

BYD eMax 7: What to expect?

The โ€˜eโ€™ in the MPVโ€™s name signifies its all-electric powertrain. According to BYD, the โ€˜Maxโ€™ is an indicator of the modelโ€™s enhanced performance, range, and features. The โ€˜7โ€™ indicates that it is the generational successor to the e6.

BYD e6 facelift: What to expect

The BYD eMax 7 will receive a new design for the LED headlamps and DRLs. The front bumper will house sleek air intakes with chrome accents. Overall, the front fascia of the MPV will look similar to the Atto 3 SUV. The profile of the eMax 7 will remain unchanged. BYD may introduce a new design for the 17-inch alloy wheels. The design of the LED tail lamps at the back will mimic that of the DRLs up front.

BYD eMax 7: What to expect?

Inside, the BYD eMax 7 will feature a 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system which is notably larger than the 10.1-inch unit on the current model. It will be available in six and seven-seat layouts. The current-gen e6 is available in a 5-seat layout only. The seats will be draped in leatherette upholstery. The MPV will also receive two new wireless charging pads along with new switchgear and a new drive selector. Other features will include cruise control, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, and more.

BYD e6 facelift: What to expect

Internationally, the BYD eMax 7 MPV is available in two battery pack options โ€“ 55.4kWh and 71.8kWh. The former offers a driving range of up to 420km while the latter goes up to 530km on a full charge. The variants with the smaller battery pack produce a maximum power output of 163hp and 310Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the larger battery pack variants put out 204hp and 310Nm. The current-gen model generates 95hp and 180Nm. The e6 model sold in India is available with a 71.8kWh battery pack only. BYD will likely stick with this battery pack on the eMax 7.

Conclusion

The current-gen BYD e6 is priced in India is priced at Rs 29.15 lakh. The eMax 7 is expected to cost over Rs 30 lakh. While it has no โ€˜all-electricโ€™ rivals, the MPV will lock horns with the Toyota Innova HyCross. It may also give the midrange MG Windsor EV a run for its money.
