The Toyota Innova HyCross MPV has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by Bharat NCAP. This rating is applicable to all variants of the MPV. The car assessment program designed for India put the MPV through rigorous crash tests. The Innova HyCross is the first Toyota car to be tested by the body. It is also the first hybrid vehicle to undergo crash testing under BNCAP’s norms.

Toyota Innova HyCross: BNCAP test results explained
In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test, the Toyota Innova HyCross scored 30.47 points out of a possible 32. In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, the MPV showed good protection to the driver’s head, pelvis, thighs, right leg, and feet. The protection provided to the chest and left leg was adequate. The passenger’s dummy showed good protection to the head, pelvis, thighs, legs, and feet. The chest was protected adequately. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier and Side Pole Impact tests, the MPV showed good protection to all body parts.
In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, the Toyota Innova HyCross scored 45 points out of a possible 49. The MPV was tested with dummies for 18-month-old and 3-year-old children. It got a Dynamic score of 24 points (out of 24), a CRS installation score of 12 points (out of 12), and a Vehicle assessment score of 9 points (out of 13).
The Toyota Innova HyCross is equipped with standard safety features like 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts and reminders for all passengers, ISOFIX anchorages, Pedestrian Protection System (PPS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and more. In March, the MPV was updated with an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS). Its ADAS package consists of features like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), and Road Sign Assist (RSB).
The Toyota Innova HyCross is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 174hp and 205Nm of torque. In a strong hybrid configuration, it puts out 184hp. This engine is mated to a CVT gearbox. The MPV offers a fuel economy of 16.13kmpl. Only the top-spec variants of the MPV are available with a strong-hybrid configuration.

Prices for the Toyota Innova HyCross start at Rs 19.94 lakh and go up to Rs 32.58 lakh. After receiving a 5-star rating from BNCAP, it has become one of the safest MPVs in India. It rivals the likes of Tata Safari, Kia Carnival, Maruti Suzuki Invicto, and Mahindra XUV700 in India.
