Mercedes GLB and EQB to launch on December 2

Mercedes GLB and EQB SUVs are finally getting an Indian launch. The two SUVs will be introduced to the Indian market on December 2. The EQB is the EV counterpart of the Mercedes GLB. Mercedes EQB will mark the automaker’s this EV release in India this year, following the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ and the EQS 580 4MATIC. Both SUVs can currently be booked at a token price of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Mercedes GLB: What to expect?

The Mercedes GLB will be made available in two powertrain options and three variants – GLB 200, GLB 220d, and GLB 220d 4MATIC. The Mercedes GLB 200 will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine that can produce a maximum power of 163hp. This engine will be mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The Mercedes GLB 220d and 220d 4MATIC will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit that can generate a maximum power output of 190hp. This engine will come paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The Progressive Line trim for the GLB 200 will feature 18-inch alloy wheels, a dual-slat grille, and chrome highlights on the exterior. The GLB 220d variants will get the AMG Line trims will receive 19-inch five-spoke alloys and a special AMG-themed grille.

Dimensionally, the Mercedes GLB is a much bigger vehicle than GLA, with a length of 4,634 mm and a wheelbase of 2,829 mm. The front fascia is highlighted by the wide grille and signature headlamps. The Mercedes GLB features a flat bonnet and roofline and overall the design looks inspired by the GLS. Even the rear tail lamps look similar to the GLS. Given that it’s the only other Mercedes 7-seater, the similar design makes sense. One differentiating factor is GLB’s more pronounced shoulder line.

All three variants will come with five exterior and three interior colour scheme options. They will also be decked with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Mercedes EQB: Another addition to Mercedes’ EV portfolio in India

Launched globally last year, the Mercedes EQB is finally making its way to India. The interior and cabin details of the EQB are quite similar to the GLB. On the exterior, though, the EQB gets a few tweaks. It gets the signature EQ design with a blanked-off front grille and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.

In the international market, the EQB has been made available in two variants – a dual-motor 228hp powertrain dubbed the 300 4Matic, and a higher spec 292hp dual-motor powertrain dubbed the 350 4Matic.

In India, Mercedes is offering only the entry-level 300 4Matic option for the EQB. It is powered by a 66.5 kWh battery pack that can offer a range of up to 419km.
