Tata Safari EV expected to launch in January 2027

The all-electric Tata Safari is finally coming to India next year. Fresh reports suggest that the automaker will launch its flagship EV in January 2027. The Safari EV will share a lot of mechanical similarities with its badge sibling, the Harrier EV, but it is expected to mark the debut of the biggest battery pack from Tata yet. Since it is an ICE-to-EV conversion, it will retain the broad design language of the ICE Safari.

Tata Safari EV: What to expect?

The Safari EV is underpinned by the Acti.ev+ platform. This architecture is also found on the Harrier EV. The all-electric Safari will get the 2 battery options offered with the Harrier EV – 65kWh and 75kWh. These battery packs can go up to 538km and 622km on a full charge, respectively. These numbers will be slightly lower on the Safari EV due to its heavier body. Tata may also equip the top-spec variants of its flagship EV with an 80kWh battery pack. The driving range specs of this battery are currently unknown.

The Safari EV will also share its electric motor with the Harrier EV. The latter comes in RWD and AWD configurations. The single-electric-motor-powered RWD variants generate a maximum power output of 238hp and 315Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the AWD variants, powered by a dual electric motor setup, put out 354hp and 504Nm.

The Tata Safari EV test mules that have been spotted so far look very similar to its ICE model. The two SUVs will have identical dimensions. The EV will get a side step along the sides. This add-on is missing on the ICE version of the SUV. Apart from the exclusive EV branding, no big changes are expected along the front and rear sections. The spy shots have also revealed a multi-link suspension setup for the all-electric model.

Harrier EV

Inside, the Tata Safari EV may get a new colour theme to distinguish it from the ICE model, but its overall cabin layout and design will remain unchanged. The EV will be equipped with TiDAL – Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer. This layer will bring features like UPI payments, OTA updates, surround view, Park Assist (PA), and Summon Mode on board.

ICE Safari

The dashboard of the Safari EV will rock a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other features like a 6-way powered driver seat with memory, 4-way powered co-driver seats, front ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, JBL Black 10-speaker audio system, voice-assisted dual-zone fully automatic temperature control, ambient lighting, rear-row comfort headrests, rear window sunshades, and more are also expected to make the cut.

Final Thoughts

The Harrier EV is currently Tata Motors’ flagship electric offering in India. Its prices start at Rs 21.49 lakh and go up to Rs 30.54 lakh. The Safari EV will demand a premium over these prices. Upon launch, it will rival the Mahindra XEV 9S, BYD Atto 3, MG Tomahawk EV, and VinFast VF 7.
