After launching the new Brezza, and Grand Vitara and Alto K10 soon to follow, Maruti Suzuki has already started testing the Maruti Baleno SUV coupe on Indian roads. Codenamed YTB, the Baleno SUV coupe will be unveiled at AutoExpo in January 2023. New spy images surfaced recently when the SUV was being tested in Rohtak, Haryana.

The Maruti Baleno SUV Coupe, referred internally as Baleno Cross, is based on the Futuro-e Concept that we saw at the AutoExpo in January 2020. The SUV Couple looks like a crossover, bearing some resemblance to the Baleno hatchback. Unlike the Futuro-e Concept, the roofline on Baleno Cross does not taper towards the end, ensuring plenty of interior space. The DRLs and front headlamps seem similar to the ones we saw last month on the Grand Vitara.

The spy images do not provide any look into the interior, but we expect the Maruti Baleno SUV Coupe to get the same 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen as the Grand Vitara. The Baleno cross will also come equipped with up to 6 airbags, Head Up Display, and smartphone connectivity.

It looks likely that the Baleno Cross will be based on Maruti’s Heartect platform and could be powered by a 1.0-litre BoostJet turbo petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 100PS and 150Nm torque, as seen previously on the Baleno RS. A mild-hybrid setup can also be expected, although it is too early to speculate on the specifications.

After debuting at AutoExpo in January next year, the Maruti Baleno SUV Coupe will be launched the very next month, in February 2023. It will sit between the Baleno hatchback and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Toyota is also expected to come out with a similar SUV Coupe of their own, given their partnership with Maruti Suzuki.
