Volkswagen Virtus facelift: Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming sedan

The Virtus facelift test mules that have surfaced so far have had thick camouflage on the front and rear sections – which is where most of the big changes will come. The front fascia will get a new grille with a sleek LED bar running through it, connecting the DRL elements. The grille will also house an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The LED headlamps and DRLs will receive a few tweaks to their signature. The bumper will also be reworked.

No changes are expected along the sides of the Virtus facelift, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the sedan gets a new set of alloy wheels. The silhouette and character lines will remain unchanged. At the back, the LED tail lamps will be refreshed with a new design. It remains to be seen whether they will be connected by a light bar. The Volkswagen logo will most likely be illuminated. The rear bumper will get a few tweaks too.

Volkswagen will elevate the Virtus facelift’s interior with premium trims on the door panels and the dashboard. We also expect new upholstery options. The top-spec variants may come with a new colour theme. The dashboard will house a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The driver’s cockpit will get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Features like multi-zone air conditioning, ambient lighting, a powered driver’s seat, wireless charging, and more are expected to make the cut. The most notable omissions will be an ADAS package and a panoramic sunroof. On the safety front, the sedan will carry forward 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill start assist, rear parking sensors, multi-collision braking, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, and other features from the current model.

The Volkswagen Virtus facelift will retain the 1-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engine options from the current model. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 113hp and 175Nm of torque. The engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The latter transmission option is expected to be replaced by an 8-speed torque converter gearbox. The 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine puts out 148hp and 250Nm. It can be linked to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts

The current Virtus range starts at Rs 10.71 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.20 lakh. The facelift will demand a small premium. It will also get new colour options. Upon launch, it will continue to rival the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Skoda Slavia in India.
