Toyota Innova HyCross is set to get its first facelift next month, almost 4 years after making its debut in December 2022. The new model will hit the market on November 26. It will bring several cosmetic tweaks and feature upgrades to the MPV, but the biggest change will come under the hood in the form of a new flex-fuel hybrid powertrain. The facelift model has been spotted testing on multiple occasions in India over the last couple of months.

Toyota Innova HyCross facelift: What to expect?
The front fascia of the HyCross facelift will receive several significant design changes. The front grille will have a parametric design, and the air dam will be carved into the front bumper. The LED headlamps will be integrated with eyebrow-style DRLs, with both lighting elements sporting a sleeker form factor. A glossy trim running at the top of the grille will house the Toyota emblem. No big changes are expected along the sides, except for a new look for the alloy wheels. At the back, the bumper and tailgate will get some marginal cosmetic updates.

The test mules of the HyCross facelift suggest that a new infotainment system is in the works. The top-spec variants of the current model use a floating 10.1-inch touchscreen unit. Toyota may offer this display on lower variants, while updating the higher ones with a larger screen. The digital instrument cluster could also get an upgrade. Other features like automatic climate control, ambient lighting, cruise control, rear entertainment screens, wireless charging, and more are expected to make the cut.Â

The HyCross is one of the safest MPVs in the Indian market, having received a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat NCAP last year. With the current model leading the segment in terms of safety, we don’t expect the facelift to get any big upgrades on this front. It will retain its standard safety features like 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts and reminders for all passengers, ISOFIX anchorages, Pedestrian Protection System (PPS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and more. The ADAS package will also be carried forward with functions like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), and Road Sign Assist (RSB).

As we mentioned earlier, the big update on the Innova HyCross facelift will be a flex-fuel strong-hybrid powertrain. Toyota has showcased a prototype of the MPV with this powertrain in the past. It transforms the 2-litre petrol engine of the standard model to run on petrol-ethanol blends up to E85. The standard 2-litre petrol engine will be retained on the facelift model as well. This unit generates a maximum power output of 174hp and 205Nm of torque. In a strong hybrid configuration, it puts out 184hp. It is mated to a CVT gearbox. The MPV offers a fuel economy of 16.13km/l.

Final Thoughts
With Toyota planning to discontinue the Innova Crysta next year, we expect some new entry-level variants for the Innova HyCross facelift. As a result, its starting price will go down. The current range starts at Rs 18.70 lakh and goes up to Rs 37.10 lakh. The MPV rivals the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Kia Carnival, and Mahindra XUV 7XO in India.
