Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: First looks and more

Following the marketing strategy of Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Maruti Suzuki has started to unveil the Grand Vitara at Nexa dealerships before the official launch. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be offered in 6 trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, Zeta+ and Alpha+. Buyers will also be given options in 2 engines and 3 gearbox combinations. Colour options include 6 monotone and 3 dual-tone colour schemes. The monotone colours are Nexa Blue, Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Chestnut Brown, and Opulent  Red. The dual-tone options include Arctic White + Black, Splendid Silver + Black, and Opulent Red + Black. These dual-tone colours will only be offered for Zeta+, Alpha, and Alpha+ variants.

You can get a closer look at the Grand Vitara from the walkaround video below.

The front end of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara features LED Headlamps with Integrated DRLs in a three-dot pattern like the new Baleno. The two DRLs are separated by a chrome bar running between them, and a Suzuki logo is studded right at the centre. The wide front grille receives chrome and piano black inserts, giving a bold look to the SUV. The Grand Vitara is the first Maruti car in India to receive 17-inch precision-cut alloy wheels.

Inside, the Grand Vitara is a thing of beauty. The giant panoramic sunroof, another first for Maruti in India, covers the exquisite interior design. The Electric Hybrid receives Rich Black faux leather seating with gold accents, while the Smart Hybrid gets Bordeaux faux leather with silver accents. The Grand Vitara also receives a 9.0-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, and a Head-Up Display. The Grand Vitara shares its design for HVAC controls, cooling vents, steering, and control switches with the HyRyder.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes in two engine variants – a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, and Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine with a strong hybrid system. More than half the bookings for the Grand Vitara have been for the strong hybrid engine unit. A 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission will be offered with the new Grand Vitara.

The 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine generates a maximum power of 103hp with 137Nm peak torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine generates 92hp of power with a peak torque of 122Nm. This, coupled with the electric motor in the strong hybrid variant, generates a combined power of 115hp. The electric motor alone produces a maximum power of 80hp with 141Nm peak torque. Maruti claims Grand Vitara’s mileage to be the best-in-class at 27.97kmpl.
