Toyota Innova Hycross to debut in India in November

After the unveiling of the Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Toyota Kirloskar India is set to debut the Toyota Innova Hycross in the Indian market. Toyota is looking for a Diwali season debut followed by the launch in January 2023. Toyota plans to sell Innova Hycross alongside Toyota Crysta.

Toyota Innova Hycross: What to expect?

The Toyota Innova Hycross will be sold in overseas markets as Innova Zenix. With Hycross, Toyota has seemed to make a switch from the ladder frame architecture to the monocoque chassis, which is significantly lighter. In sharp contrast to the Crysta, the Innova Hycross will sport a front-wheel drive set-up instead of a rear-wheel drive. It will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform which is also found on the Toyota Corolla. The Innova Hycross stands at a length of 4.7 metres and has a wheelbase of 2,980 mm. This makes it a bigger vehicle than the Crysta.

Toyota seems to be refreshing its MPV design with Innova Hycross. It will look significantly different from the Toyota Crysta and will borrow certain design elements from the Corolla Cross SUV. Buyers can expect lots of cabin space and multiple seating configurations.

Toyota will entirely ditch the diesel engine for the Innova Hyrcross and it will be made available in only petrol-hybrid variants. This makes it similar to HyRyder, the key difference being that the Hycross will use a 2.0-litre engine instead of the 1.5-litre unit on the HyRyder. It will also come with a localised version of the Toyota Hybrid System.

More details about the Toyota Innova Hycross will be revealed as we get closer to the debut date. Toyota is also working on the new Fortuner, which is expected to come with a host of safety features, and the next-gen Innova, which may also get a hybrid engine. Upon launch, the Toyota Innova Hycross will rival Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Kia Carens.
