After the surprise announcement of a Tiago EV being in the works, Tata is ramping up to unveil its latest EV offering on September 28. Even though the official announcement came on World EV Day last week, plans for the production of the Tiago EV had been in the pipeline ever since the concept module was unveiled at AutoExpo back in 2018. Tiago EV could be the most affordable EV in the Indian market, a title currently held by Tata’s own Tigor EV.

While no details have been formally announced yet, we expect the Tiago EV to retain the looks of its ICE-powered sibling. A front profile will sport a shut-off grille, as is the case with most EVs. Similar to the Tigor EV, the Tiago will also come with blue detailing and highlights across the body.

Rumours suggest that the Tiago will be underpinned by Tigor EV’s platform. The Tigor EV is currently offered in two motor options with a choice of three different battery packs. The Tiago EV could share Tigor’s base variant’s motor that produces a maximum power of 41hp and 105Nm peak torque. This engine is offered with battery pack options of 16kWh and 21.5kWh.  The former offers a driving range of 165 km while the latter can cover a distance of 213 km on a single full charge. The 21.5kWh battery can be fully charged by a 15kW DC fast charger in just under two hours.

It isn’t out of the realm of possibility for the Tiago to get the more powerful Tigor EV motor which produces a maximum power of 75hp and 170Nm peak torque. This motor is offered with a 26kWh lithium-ion battery pack which provides a driving range of 306km.

Not much is known about the interior of the Tiago EV, but it is expected to retain the dual-tone black and grey interior theme of its ICE sibling. The blue highlights from the exterior will also feature inside the cabin. The transmission knob could be carried forward from the Tigor EV.
