Tata Tiago EV deliveries rollout initiated across India

Tata Motors has commenced the deliveries for their newest all-electric hatchback, Tata Tiago EV. The electric hatchback was launched in September 2022 at an introductory price of Rs 8.49 lakh, making it the most affordable EV in India. This introductory price was valid for the first 10,000 bookings which Tata later expanded to 20,000 bookings, given the increase in demand. In the first phase of deliveries, Tata will roll out 2,000 units of the EV across 133 cities.

Tata Tiago EV: Powertrain, Driving Range, and more

Currently, there is a four-month waiting period for the Tiago EV. For some variants, the waiting period has been extended to six months. The next phase of deliveries will begin at the end of February. Tata will hike the prices for Tiago EV once the introductory offer ends.

In terms of design, Tata Tiago EV looks exactly the same as its ICE counterpart, bar some EV-specific tweaks. Firstly, the EV gets a closed-off grille, which is standard for most electric offerings. It also gets blue highlights across the body and headlamps, a unique detail that Tata reserves for its electric vehicles. The shut-off grille also receives the signature tri-arrow design on both ends. Along the sides, the alloy wheel design has also been refreshed for the EV.

Inside, the Tiago EV receives leatherette seating to give it a more premium feel. In terms of features, the EV receives fully automatic climate control (standard among all variants), projector headlamps, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, electric OVRMs with auto fold, push button start/stop, and an emergency puncture repair kit.

Tata Tiago EV has been made available in two battery pack options: 19.2kWh and 24kWh. The EV comes in 7 variants, with multiple battery pack and charging combinations. Both battery packs are rated IP67 for dust and water resistance. Tata claims a Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC) range of 315 km for the 24kWh battery pack and 250km for the 19.2kWh battery.

Powering the Tata Tiago EV is a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor which delivers a peak power output of 55kW and an instant full torque delivery of 114Nm. The electric hatchback can accelerate from 0-60kmph in 5.7 seconds. There are also two driving modes on offer – City mode and Sport mode – with further four levels of regen settings in each mode.

Conclusion

Currently, the Tata Tiago EV range starts at Rs 8.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.79 lakh for the top-spec XZ+ Tech Lux variant. Tata Motors has announced that it will be hiking the prices of the EV by 4% soon. While it has no direct rivals right now, the Tata Tiago EV will rival the Citroen eC3 once it gets launched.
