Maruti Suzuki Alto achieves 45 lakh sales milestone

Maruti Suzuki Alto has crossed the sales landmark of 45 lakh units, according to the automaker. The affordable hatchback was launched back in 2000. Currently, the Alto is sold in its K10 avatar, with prices starting at Rs 3.99 lakh. Over the years, the Alto has brought a range of premium features like Dual airbags, ABS, AGS, and power steering to the entry-level hatchback segment.

Maruti Suzuki Alto: The Journey So Far

Launched in 2000, it took the Alto only 4 years to become India’s bestselling car. By 2016, the hatchback had sold 30 lakh units. It took Alto just 4 more years to record 10 lakh more sales. In the last 3 years, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 5 lakh units of the hatchback. Currently, Maruti Suzuki Alto is sold in its ‘K10’ avatar. The hatchback was launched in August 2022.

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is a 1.0-lire, three-cylinder, K10C engine that is also found in Celerio and S-Presso. This engine can produce a maximum power of 67hp and 89Nm torque. The K10C engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The mileage of the Alto K10 is 24.39 kmpl for manual variants and 24.90 kmpl for automatic variants.

Given the young demographic of India, rising income levels, etc. there will continue to be immense potential for cars such as the much-adored Alto. And we are confident that brand Alto will continue to delight lakhs of more families with its undisputed legacy and exceptional ownership experience.”

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is one of the most versatile hatchbacks on the market. Apart from a petrol powertrain, the Alto K10 is also sold in a CNG configuration. The hatchback rivals Renault Kwid, Datsun redi-Go, and Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
