Mahindra XUV400 EV to launch on September 8

After setting its global EV ambitions by unveiling 5 new electric SUVs on Independence Day, Mahindra is set to launch the XUV300 EV on September 8. The XUV300 EV was not a part of the grand unveiling in Oxfordshire, and will not be based on the INGLO platform. Instead, it is based on SsangYong’s X100 platform and has been further ahead in the development curve in comparison to the INGLO EVs. The XUV400 EV was also spied testing last month.

Mahindra XUV400 EV: What to expect?

The XUV400 EV carries forward the design of the eXUV300 concept showcased in AutoExpo 2020. It will be slightly larger than the eXUV300 concept, which explains the change in name. The expected length of the XUV400 EV is about 4.2m. The increase in size means a greater boot space as well. The boomerang-shaped front LEDs are identical to the ones we saw in the eXUV300 concept.

Similar to the concept, the XUV400 EV features a shut-off front grille but comes with a small air dam at the bottom. The alloy wheels and tail lamps have received design tweaks as well.

The XUV400 EV is underpinned by SsangYong’s X100 platform, which is the main reason why it hasn’t received the XUV.e branding found in the recently unveiled EVs. Mahindra has confirmed it will source the battery pack from LG Chem. While more details are yet to come out, it has been widely reported that the XUV400 EV will generate a maximum power of 150hp and will offer a range of over 400km on a single charge. Mahindra could also offer two battery pack options with the XUV400 EV.

More details like the battery pack options, drive modes, and general specs will be revealed as we get closer to launch. We expect the Mahindra XUV400 EV to cost anywhere between Rs18-25 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Hyundai Kona EV.
