2022 EV Policy: Hybrid and Imported EVs to cost less in Haryana

In an effort to push EV adoption in the state, the Haryana state govt approved the 2022 EV Policy. This new policy offers several incentives to EV manufacturers in the state as well as discounts for EV buyers. The govt of  Haryana will also develop charging infrastructure as a viable business venture in the State. With the 2022 EV Policy, the state govt seeks to promote clean transportation, ensure environmental sustainability, and create an ecosystem for the manufacturing of EV components in Haryana.

2022 EV Policy: What incentives will it offer?

The 2022 EV Policy also includes hybrid vehicles in its scope, with a flat 15 percent subsidy on offer for cars priced below Rs 40 lakh, with a maximum ceiling of Rs 3 lakh. Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda City eHEV are set to benefit from this.

When it comes to full EVs, a subsidy of 15 percent will be offered on models priced between Rs 15-40 lakh. The maximum ceiling in this category is Rs 6 lakh. The MG ZS EV that is currently priced at Rs 22 lakh will get a price cut of Rs 3.3 lakh. Similarly, the Tata Nexon XS Plus currently priced at Rs 16.30 lakh will get a price cut of Rs 2.44 lakh.

There is some good news for foreign manufacturers as well, since imported EVs will be offered a 15 percent discount with a ceiling of Rs 10 lakh for cars priced between Rs 40-70 lakh.

On top of this, there are a few additional incentives available for the next six months. E-rickshaws will be offered up to Rs 25,000 worth of incentives, and electric light motor vehicles getting up to Rs 50,000 worth of incentives. Electric cars below Rs 10 lakh will get Rs 75,000 worth of incentives, while the ones above Rs 10 lakh will receive Rs 1,00,000 in incentives.

When it comes to infrastructure, all new Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Units and Electric Battery Units will be exempted from paying electric duty for the first 10 years. The govt of Haryana will also encourage PSUs to set up charging infrastructure in the state. Fast charging stations with battery swapping infrastructure will be provided at every 50 kilometres on major highways.

The major objective of the 2022 EV policy is to establish Haryana as a global hub for electric mobility development and manufacturing of electric vehicles. It also aims to attract manufacturers to set up their electric vehicle manufacturing units in the state. The govt of Haryana is also hoping to generate considerable employment in the state with this new initiative.
