Maruti Suzuki Wagon R facelift spotted testing in Haryana

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is set to receive a facelift soon. The upcoming model was recently spotted on a road test in Gurugram, Haryana. The test mule was completely covered in camouflage, but it gave away some cues hinting at potential cosmetic and mechanical changes. The tall hatchback is currently in its 3rd-generation avatar. This will be the most comprehensive update it has received since the introduction of the current model.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R facelift: What to expect?

The Wagon R facelift’s test mule suggests updates along the grille, halogen headlamps, and bumper. The air inlets also appear to have been reworked. At the back, the bumper has been refreshed. The upcoming hatchback uses vertical reflectors instead of the horizontal ones found on the current model. The tail lamp design looks identical to the current model. We didn’t spot any changes along the sides either.

Maruti will carry forward the 1-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine on the facelifted version of the Wagon R. This E20-compatible engine generates a maximum power output of 66hp and 89Nm of torque. In a CNG guise, its output drops to 56hp and 82Nm. Reports suggest that the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated ‘K12N’ petrol engine will be replaced by the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated ‘Z12E’ petrol engine. This change was recently implemented on the Baleno facelift.

On the Baleno, this engine generates a maximum power output of 83hp and 112Nm of torque, and can be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT. In a CNG variant, it churns out 70hp and 102Nm. The outgoing 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated K-series engine produces a maximum power output of 88hp and 113Nm of torque on the current model of the Wagon R.

On the current model, Maruti has tweaked the K12N engine to support Bioflex fuel as well. Changes have been made to the fuel injectors and fuel pumps. The ECU has been recalibrated to make this engine compliant with higher ethanol levels. The automaker has also added new fuel lines and an ethanol sensor. The engine is compatible with fuel containing up to 85% ethanol (E85).

No big changes are expected inside the facelift. It will likely carry forward the layout and instrumentation of the current model. This means it will be equipped with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual dimming IVRM, a 4-speaker sound system, a manual AC with rear vents, and more. On the safety front, it will get 6 airbags, ESP, fog lamps, rear parking sensors, and more.
