Mahindra XUV 7XO gets a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP

The Mahindra XUV 7XO has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by Bharat NCAP. The SUV was launched in India back in January at a starting price of Rs 13.66 lakh. The crash tests were conducted in July 2026. BNCAP used the 2WD and AWD AX7/AX7L Diesel AT variants for the tests. The 5-star rating applies to all variants of the SUV.

Mahindra XUV 7XO: Crash test results explained

In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test, the XUV 7XO scored 30.76 points out of a possible 32. The SUV showed good protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier test. The chest and tibiae were adequately protected. Meanwhile, the passenger’s head, neck, chest, pelvis, and thighs showed good protection, while the tibiae were adequately protected. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier and Side Pole Impact tests, the SUV showed good protection overall.

In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, the Mahindra XUV 7XO scored 44.97 points out of a possible 49. The SUV was crash-tested using dummies for 18-month-old and 3-year-old children. The former secured 11.97 points, while the latter got the highest possible 12 points, leading to a Dynamic score of 23.97 points (out of 24). The SUV also secured a CRS installation score of 12 points (out of 12) and a Vehicle assessment score of 9 points (out of 13).

The 7XO comes with 75 safety features as standard, including 6 airbags, ESP with EBD, and Hill Descent Control. Higher variants get 7 airbags, Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold, TPMS, auto-booster headlamps with high beam assist, a Level 2 ADAS package with 17 functions, and more.

The SUV is available in 2 engine options. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 200hp and 380Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine is available in two tune levels. The entry-level variants put out 155hp and 360Nm of torque, while the top-spec variants generate 185hp and 420Nm. The torque output jumps to 450Nm on the automatic variants. Both engines can be paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Prices for the XUV 7XO start at Rs 13.99 lakh and go up to Rs 25.94 lakh. With a 5-star rating from the Bharat NCAP, it is now one of the safest SUVs in its category. It rivals the Tata Safari, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, MG Hector, Hector Plus, and Kia Seltos.
