Tata Tiago hit a new sales milestone of 5 lakh units today. Tiago’s last 1 lakh sales came within a span of 15 months, indicating its rise in popularity among new buyers. Tata Motors celebrated the landmark with a symbolic roll-out at the production facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Tata Tiago is one of the most affordable hatchbacks in India and is available in three powertrain options – Petrol, CNG, and Electric.

Tata Tiago’s new sales milestone is indicative of the hatchback’s stronghold on the market

With over 5 lakh units sold, 60% of Tata Tiago’s sales came from urban markets and 40% from rural markets, with the average buyer age being 35 years. Women made up 10% of Tiago’s sales. For 71% of the buyers, the Tiago was a first-car purchase.

Tata Tiago EV: Design, Powertrain, and Pricing

The petrol variants of Tata Tiago are powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that puts out 86hp. Buyers get the option of a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox on the hatchback. The CNG models put out 73hp and 95Nm and are only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata Tiago CNG offers a mileage of 26.49 km/kg. Meanwhile, the Permanent Synchronous Motor on the Tiago EV produces a peak power output of 55kW and 114Nm of torque. There are two battery options on offer. Tata claims a driving range of 315 km for the 24kWh battery pack and 250km for the 19.2kWh battery.

Conclusion 

Tata Motors has also confirmed that the new models of Tata Tiago CNG will come with the dual-cylinder setup found on the CNG models of Punch and Altroz. This will increase the boot capacity of the Tiago CNG by a considerable factor. Tata Tiago is also one of the safest hatchbacks in its segment, receiving 4 stars in the Global NCAP tests back in January 2020.
