Kia Sonet SUV Sales Crosses 1.5 Lakh Units In Just 21 Months

Kia Sonet, one of the bestselling compact SUV models in India, has crossed the 1.5 lakh unit sales milestone within just two years of its launch in the country. It accounts for about a third (32%) of the brand’s total sales in India. It now has a 15% market share of its segment and rivals cars like Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, etc.

The Kia Sonet sub-4m SUV was launched in September 2020 in the country, i.e., 21 months ago. It was introduced at a price of Rs 6.71 lakhs and went up to Rs 11.99 lakhs. Within just 12 months, the SUV successfully sold 1 lakh units. The first 3 months saw the highest sale of 32k units. The sales gradually declined thereafter, but then escalated in recent months. 

Kia Sonet is offered as a 5-seater SUV with its different trims classified broadly in two categories, Tech Line and GT Line. It comes with 10 colour options for its exteriors. According to the brand, its two most popular colours are Glacier White Pearl and Aurora Black Pearl. Kia had updated the Sonet and Seltos SUVs with additional safety features about a while ago. Speaking of the Kia Sonet interiors, it features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, wireless charging, sunroof, an air purifier and connected car tech.

On the front of safety, the SUV comes equipped with 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), vehicle stability management, ABS with EBD as well as electronic stability control (ESC). Coming to its engine specs, the Kia Sonet powertrain options include a 1.0L turbo petrol unit, a 1.2L petrol unit, and a 1.5L diesel unit. The 1.0L petrol engine delivers an output of 120hp and 172Nm of torque while the 1.2L version delivers 83hp and 115Nm of torque. The diesel engine powers the vehicle with 100hp and 240Nm of torque. 

Transmission options offered with the Kia Sonet include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT, varying for different trims. 

The revised Kia Sonet price in India starts from Rs 7.15 lakhs and goes up to Rs 13.79 lakhs (ex-showroom).
