The premium executive segment sedan by Hyundai, the Elantra, which was launched in October 2019, has been surprisingly removed from Hyundai India’s official website. Being one of the flagship sedans of Hyundai in the Indian market, the Elantra not only sported a stylish design language but also offered a wide range of top-quality features to its customers. It is however not clear whether is the Hyundai Elantra discontinued temporarily to pave way for its next-gen model in the future, or is it being discontinued forever from the Indian markets considering the raging wave of SUVs in India.

The executive segment sedans are just like 7-star hotels but on wheels. These luxury sedans come with the most elite set of features and are known especially for their long-wheelbase which provides its occupants with a more spacious cabin. The rivals of Hyundai Elantra in this segment initially were Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis and Skoda Octavia. Gradually, the plug was pulled off the former two of its rivals. The seeming discontinuation of the Elantra now leaves the Skoda Octavia as the only premium sedan in this segment.

The Elantra came with two engine options. It was powered by a 2.0L petrol engine offering 150bhp and 192Nm torque, and a 1.5L CRDi diesel engine churning out 114bhp with 250Nm torque. Both of these options came with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Some of its highlighted features included an electric sunroof, wireless charging, automatic climate control, connected car technology and Infinity sound system. Available in two trims namely SX and SX(O), the Hyundai Elantra price in India was in the range of Rs 17-22 lakhs.
So what remains to be solved as a mystery is whether is this really an end of the journey for the Hyundai Elantra or does this mark a new beginning in its lifetime. Do let us know what you think in the comments section below.
