Maruti plans on launching its new midsize SUV globally and it appears that it is bound to replace the Maruti Suzuki Vitara. The latter had been on sale in European and African markets since 2015. The new Maruti SUV may be assigned the ‘Vitara’ monicker, seeing how they dropped the prefix from the new Brezza.

According to several reports, this new midsize SUV along with Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform, which can presently be seen on Maruti Suzuki’s Ciaz, Vitara-Brezza, and S-cross.

It is also speculated that the new midsize SUV will be powered by the K15C Dual-jet petrol engine which one can currently see in the Maruti Suzuki Eritga and XL6. Reports also suggest that Maruti’s new release may be offered in mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid variants that will be sourced from Toyota. Transmission choices can range from a six-speed torque convertor on the mild-hybrid to a CVT gearbox on the strong-hybrid.

The new Maruti SUV is expected to release by the end of next month and early August. While this may be a similar release timeline to Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti’s new offering will certainly not launch before Toyota’s. The price announcement will come along with the release but we expect it to launch at anywhere between Rs 10-11 lakh. It will be sold through Nexa outlets. Maruti’s midsize SUV is set to compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
