MG Hector and Gloster get a price hike

Prices for MG Hector and Gloster SUVs have been hiked by up to Rs 78,000. This is the second time that MG Motors has hiked the prices for the two SUVs in three months. Prices for the Gloster now start at Rs 38.80 lakh. The base variant of MG Hector does not receive a price hike.

MG Hector and Gloster: Price breakdown

While the price of the base variant of MG Hector remains unchanged, the Smart Pro, Sharp Pro, and Savvy Pro variants receive a uniform price hike of Rs 30,000. The top-spec petrol variant of MG Hector Plus receives a price increase of Rs 60,000 and now costs Rs 22.72. Meanwhile, the top-spec MG Hector petrol variant costs Rs 22.39 lakh. Diesel variants of MG Hector receive a price hike in the range of Rs 30,000 to Rs 61,000.

The turbo petrol engine on MG Hector can generate a maximum power of 143hp with a torque of 250Nm, while the diesel engine can churn out 170hp with a torque of 350Nm. Both engines are mated with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the non-hybrid petrol version also gets the option of a CVT automatic.

The Gloster range now starts at Rs 38.80 lakh. The top-spec Savvy trim receives the biggest price hike of Rs 78,000 and now costs Rs 43.16 lakh. The 2.0-litre diesel engine on the Gloster is offered in a ‘turbo’ and ‘twin turbo’ spec. The turbo engine can produce a maximum power of 161bhp and 375Nm peak torque, while the twin-turbo engine can generate a maximum power of 215bhp and 380Nm peak torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

MG Hector rivals the likes of Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Mahindra Scorpio N, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta. Meanwhile, the Gloster rivals Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4, Isuzu MU-X, Jeep Meridian, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Carnival.
