Mercedes will launch the Mercedes EQS 580 EV in India tomorrow, September 29. The EQS 580 EV will become the first luxury EV to be locally manufactured in India. The EQS 580 is already regarded as the best luxury in the market overseas, and Mercedes plans to produce it at its plant in Chakan, near Pune. Bookings for the Mercedes EQS 580 EV had begun last week. The German automaker had also recently launched the Mercedes AMG EQS 53.
Mercedes EQS 580 EV: What to expect?
The Mercedes EQS 580 EV will come with a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a four-motor setup. Mercedes claims this battery pack can provide a driving range of 750 km, which would make the EQS 580 EV the longest-ranged electric car in India. The electric motor can produce a maximum power of 523hp and 856nm peak torque. The EV can go from 0-100kmph in 4.1 seconds. In comparison, the AMG EQS 53 takes 3.5 seconds to accomplish the same feat.
Moving to cosmetics, the Mercedes EQS 580 EEV has been designed keeping the aerodynamic element in mind. It features a low-slung profile much like the AMG EQS 53. The front fascia sports a closed-off grille that has been blacked out entirely. It also gets LED headlamps, frameless doors, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Mercedes EQS 580 EV features a massive 56-inch MBUX hyperscreen. This hyperscreen combines the driver display, central infotainment, and passenger display into one mega unit. On top of that, the EQS 580 EV gets ambient lighting, massage seats, and a Burmester sound system.
The Mercedes EQS 580 EV is expected to be priced at Rs 1.80 crore. In comparison, the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 was launched at Rs 2.45 crore last month. Mercedes has also announced its plans of covering 80% of India with a fast-charging network. This network will be exclusive to Mercedes-Benz customers. Being manufactured locally, the EQS 580 EV will be available at a reduced price. It will rival the likes of the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron GT.
