Maruti Suzuki has now sold over 2 lakh units of the Grand Vitara SUV in less than two years. The automaker breezed past the 1 lakh sales landmark in September 2023, exactly one year after its launch. It took just 10 more months for the automaker to sell the next 1 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is currently one of the most popular midsize SUVs in India, a space it shares with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Start of a Legacy
After its launch in September 2022, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara garnered 51,315 sales in FY2023. In FY2024, the midsize SUV amassed 1,21,169 sales. So far in FY2025, Maruti has sold over 27,000 units of the Grand Vitara, pushing the cumulative sales past the 2 lakh mark. The SUV commands 19% of Nexa sales.
Among the SUV competitors in its segment, the Grand Vitara directly locks horns with the Hyundai Creta. It took the latter 25 months to achieve the 2 lakh sales milestone. Maruti’s midsize SUV offering caught up to the Creta in its first full financial year (FY2024). The Grand Vitara sold 1,21,169 units while the Creta amassed 1,69,773 sales. Both SUVs are also exported from India to foreign markets.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is available in two engine variants – a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine with a strong hybrid system. The former puts out 103hp and 137Nm, while the latter produces 92hp and 137Nm by itself and 115hp and 137Nm in a strong hybrid setup. The electric motor alone produces a maximum power of 80hp with 141Nm peak torque.
One of the reasons behind the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara’s success in India is its premium suite of features. The SUV sports a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, a Head-Up Display (HUD), and a panoramic sunroof. The Grand Vitara is the first Maruti offering in India to come with a panoramic sunroof.
