Mahindra showcases BE.05 and XUV.e9 concept EVs in India

Mahindra showcased the BE.05 and XUV.e9 concept EVs for the first time in India at the ‘Mahindra EV Fashion’ festival in Hyderabad. Mahindra first unveiled its ‘Born Electric’ range of EVs last year in London. Alongside the two concept EVs, Mahindra also took the wraps off its electric offroader concept, the Rall-E.

Mahindra BE.05 & XUV.e9: What’s in store?

Mahindra first unveiled the BE.05 and XUV.e9 on August 15 last year at its event in London. This included three EVs from the ‘Born Electric’ range – BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09, and two electric XUVs – XUV.e8 and XUV.e9. 

The first EV in the ‘Born Electric’ segment, the BE.05 will be launched in October 2025. With dimensions of 4370 x 1900 x 1635mm, it will be smaller than the EVs preceding it but will feature an aggressive design with C-shaped headlights and sharp cuts all around. The driver unit will receive an intelligent console and will be divided from the passenger seating.

The XUV.e9 will get an April 2025 release. It will rest on a wheelbase of 2775mm with dimensions of 4790 x 1905 x 1690mm. It will fuse the strength of an SUV will the silhouette of a coupe. The XUV.e9 will also feature a panoramic sunroof and intelligent interiors.

The Mahindra EV Fashion festival also saw the global unveil of the Rall-E electric SUV, which is an offroad version of the BE.05 coupe SUV. The C-shaped DRLs of the BE.05 have been replaced with a slim light strip on the Rall-E. Other changes include extra body cladding and offroad-oriented tyres. The Rall-E also gets rugged accessories like a roof-mounted carrier with a spare wheel and some jerry cans.

Conclusion

Mahindra has high ambitions for its line of EVs as the automaker seeks to achieve the target of one million global sales by 2030. Last year, Mahindra secured an investment of Rs 1,925 crore for its EV line from British International Investment. In the next few years, Mahindra will be looking to raise upto 1 billion USD in investments.
