Kia Sonet facelift launched in India at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh

A month after taking the wraps off the new Sonet facelift, Kia has finally launched the compact SUV at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. The top-spec variant of the SUV fetches Rs 15.69 lakh. The automaker will begin pushing out deliveries by the end of January. The facelifted model of the compact SUV gets some cosmetic changes along the exterior but remains mechanically unchanged. The biggest feature upgrade on the Sonet is the addition of a Level 1 ADAS package.

The LED headlamps and DRLs on the new Kia Sonet facelift get a significant design tweak. The LED DRLs run across the headlamps and invert along the sides, giving the front fascia of the SUV a fierce look. The size of the headlamps has been increased as well. The front bumper and skid plate also receive minor changes to their design. At the back, an LED light strip running across the tailgate connects the two new LED tail lamps. The SUV’s profile remains the same, apart from a new design for the 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the 2024 Kia Sonet retains the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system but gets a similar-sized digital instrument cluster which is larger than the one on the outgoing model. This instrument cluster is also found on the Seltos. The biggest feature upgrade on the Sonet is the addition of a Level 1 ADAS package. This package sports features like lane keep assist, high beam assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and more. Other safety features on the SUV include six airbags, TPMS, ESC, and hill-start assist. These features are standard across all variants of the Sonet. The higher trims get premium features like a Bose audio system, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and more.

Things remain the same under the hood as the Kia Sonet facelift continues to be offered with three engine options – 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 83hp and 115Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine on the Sonet churns out 120hp and 172Nm. It can be paired with an iMT or DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5-litre diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 116hp and 250Nm of torque. This diesel engine gets the option of a manual gearbox on top of an iMT or automatic gearbox.

Conclusion

The Kia Sonet facelift is available in 7 trims – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+, and X-Line. Only the first three trims are available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine. There are eight single-tone, two dual-tone, and one matte-finish colour options on offer. The compact SUV rivals the likes of Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, and Renault Kiger.
