Kia EV9 Concept showcased for the first time in India at Auto Expo 2023

Kia has taken the wraps off the Kia EV9 Concept in India at Auto Expo 2023. The EV9 Concept was first showcased at the Las Vegas Motor Show in 2021 and has since then been scheduled for production. The EV9 is expected to be launched next year, although it is uncertain whether it will be brought to Indian shores right away. The EV was also spotted testing several times last year.

Everything you need to know about the Kia EV9 Concept

The Kia EV9 will match the dimensions of the Range Rover SUV, standing at dimensions of 4,929mm x 2,055mm x 1,790mm with a wheelbase of 3,100mm. It is underpinned by the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), similar to the EV6. EV9’s wheelbase is the largest to be underpinned by this platform.

The Kia EV9 Concept sports a radical design in the form of a tiger nose grille up front, vertical DRLs, flared wheel arches and the lack of a B-pillar. The rear door is not hinged to the C-pillar. It is unlikely, that the production-spec model of the EV9 will come without a B-pillar. The spy shots of the production unit also reveal a different headlamp cluster.

The interior theme of the Kia EV9 Concept looks straight out of a sci-fi movie. The design has been kept clean and minimal, as the SUV gets a 27-inch ultra-wide touch display that acts as a digital instrument cluster as well as an infotainment system. The spoke-less flat-bottom steering wheel also invokes a futuristic vibe. There are three interior modes on the EV9 – Active, Pause, and Enjoy. When the EV9 is stationary, the Pause Mode can be engaged to fold the second-row seats to create a table and swivel the first-row seats back to face the third row. In the Enjoy Mode, the tailgate can be opened as well. It is unlikely that these modes will make it to the production unit.

The Kia EV9 will be powered by a 77.7kWh battery pack with a claimed driving range of up to 483 km. Using a 350kW charger, the EV9 can be charged from 10-80% within 30 minutes. Kia hasn’t disclosed the electric motor details yet, but the EV is expected to get a dual electric motor along with All Wheel Drive. The entry-level variant may get a single electric motor.

Conclusion

Kia India also showcased the EV6 and KA4 along with the EV9 Concept at Auto Expo 2023. The EV6 is currently Kia’s only electric offering in India, with prices starting at Rs 59.95 lakh. The EV6 rivals the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
