Jeep Avenger ICE SUV spied testing

After being officially unveiled in September, the Jeep Avenger was recently spotted on a road test. Jeep had earlier unveiled the EV version of the Avenger, but the test module was an ICE variant. The American automaker hasn’t announced the ICE variant yet. The Jeep Avenger will initially be launched in Europe, Japan, and South Korea, with an Indian launch scheduled for 2023.

Jeep Avenger SUV: What the spy shots reveal

The test module that was spotted did not have any camouflaging or covers on it. The presence of an exhaust pipe confirms that it is an ICE variant. The front grille on the module has been completely blacked out, with no chrome inserts on it. It could be a low-spec or an entry-level variant. LED headlamps with high-mounted DRLs can be found on either side of the grille. The air dam has also been blacked out. There is a small air inlet between the air dam and the grille.

The Avenger SUV will sit below the Renegade in Jeep’s lineup of SUVs. The EV version showcased last month got 18-inch alloys, but the ICE variant could also come with 17-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile reveals the X-shaped tail lamps.

Reports suggest that the ICE variant of the Jeep Avenger could be powered by a 1.2-litre GSE turbo petrol engine that is capable of producing a peak power output of 100hp. Manual and automatic gearbox options will be made available with the Avenger.

The Jeep Avenger EV will be powered by the SUV maker’s electric motor that can produce a maximum power of 95hp. Depending on how many motors are fitted in the SUV, it could generate a maximum power of up to 400hp. The battery pack powering this motor offers a driving range of around 400km on a single fuel charge, as claimed by Jeep. The SUV could be made available in two and four-wheel drive options.

Other features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, electrically adjustable front seats, ambient lighting, wireless charger, climate control, hands-free power tailgate, and more. The higher-placed variants will also come with a panoramic sunroof.

Conclusion

As mentioned earlier, the Jeep Avenger will initially launch in Europe, Japan, and South Korea, with an Indian release planned for later in 2023. The ICE variant could cost anywhere between Rs 10-15 lakh in India. Once launched, the Jeep Avenger will rival Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
