2024 Jeep Wrangler breaks cover at New York Auto Show

The new Jeep Wrangler has been unveiled at the 2023 New York International Auto Show. While this is not a new-generation Wrangler, it comes with a bunch of significant and much-needed updates. The current generation of the Wrangler was introduced in 2017 and is almost six years old.

2024 Jeep Wrangler: What’s on offer?

The new 2024 Jeep Wrangler facelift comes with a bunch of updates both inside and out. The grille up front is now smaller and more compact. It still packs the seven slots, but they are now visibly thinner. These new slots have an impact on engine cooling. Apart from the Sahara trim, the slots come in black across all variants.

Buyers can now choose between 10 different alloy wheel designs for the 2024 Jeep Wrangler. These designs are spread out from 17 inches to 20 inches. There is also an option to get the Wrangler with 32 to 35-inch tyres. Roof options include – a standard soft top, a body-coloured hard top, a black-coloured hard top, a hard/soft top combination, a Sky One-Touch powertop, a dual-door group with half doors, and a Sunrider top that opens for the front passengers.

Inside, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with rectangular air vents below it. The outgoing version of the Wrangler had round air vents. The Uconnect 5 system offers the Trails Offroad guide which has 62 offroad trails integrated into the infotainment system. For more trails, users will need to buy a premium subscription.

Powertrain options remain the same on the new 2024 Jeep Wrangler. The SUV continues to be offered in 4 engine options – 275hp and 637Nm producing 2.0-litre PHEV unit, 270hp and 400Nm producing 2.0-litre petrol engine, a 3.6-litre V6 engine that puts out 285hp and 353Nm, and a 6.4-litre V8 engine that produces 470hp and 637Nm. All engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The V6 engine gets an added option of a 6-speed manual transmission.

Conclusion

Jeep Wrangler was first imported into India in 2019 as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). By 2021, Jeep started locally assembling the SUV at its Ranjangaon plant in Pune. The facelifted version of the SUV will be launched in India later this year, although the engine options will be limited. In India, Jeep Wrangler rivals the Land Rover Defender, while overseas the SUV competes with Ford Bronco.
