Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door to launch in Japan later this year

Maruti Suzuki Jimny is set to make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 26. The automaker has confirmed that it will launch the lifestyle SUV in Japan later this year. The first batch of the Jimny 5-door was shipped for export earlier this week. Currently, the SUV is being exported to Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door: Europe still not on the cards

Maruti Suzuki aims to manufacture 1 lakh units of the Jimny 5-door this year. 84,000 of these units will be sold domestically while the rest will be shipped to foreign markets. Like its 3-door counterpart, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is manufactured entirely in India. The SUV has garnered a lot of interest from markets in Latin America and Africa. It has now been confirmed that the Jimny will also be launched on Suzuki’s home turf.

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is the K15B petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 102hp and 130Nm of torque. Buyers get the option to pair this engine with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The lifestyle SUV also gets Suzuki’s All Grip Pro AWD with low-range transfer gear (4L mode). Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door offers a mileage of 16.94 kmpl on the manual variants and 16.39 kmpl on the automatic variants.

In terms of features, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system, 6 airbags, Brake Limited Slip Differential, ESP with hill hold assist, rearview camera, hill descent control, and ABS with EBD.

Conclusion

In India, the Jimny 5-door range starts at Rs 12.74 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.05 lakh. It is a direct rival to the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. Mahindra is also expected to launch the 5-door version of the Thar by the end of the year.
