Next-generation Tata Nexon spotted on a road test again

Tata Nexon is getting its first generational update since its launch in 2017. The 2nd-gen model is set to go on sale next year. Test mules of the 2027 Nexon have been spotted on Indian roads on multiple occasions. The newest spy shots emerge from Pune, where the compact SUV was out on yet another road test. Like the previous test mules, this one was heavily camouflaged as well.

2nd-gen Tata Nexon: New dimensions, new vibe

The upcoming 2nd-gen Nexon looks more fleshed out than its current-gen counterpart. The test mules spotted so far have revealed a more upright C-pillar and a flatter roofline. These changes will improve the headroom for the rear-seat passengers. The cabin space will get a boost too. Meanwhile, the A-pillar has a more angular look. The windscreen is more upright than the one on the current model. The tailgate feels more vertical as well. The rear door appears to have been redesigned. The position of the fuel lid is higher up, which suggests more rework under the body. We expect changes to the LED headlamps and tail lamps, front grille, front and rear bumpers, and tailgate.

While the interior of the 2027 Tata Nexon was partially revealed on a previous outing, we can’t say for sure which changes will make it to the production model since automakers often use parts from the outgoing models so as not to give away crucial information about their upcoming offerings. A lot of the panels and switchgear were pulled out from the last test mule, which indicated significant rework along the interior as well.

The current-gen model comes with a 12.3-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 360-degree camera, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, a voice-controlled panoramic sunroof, a Blind View Monitor, wireless charging, ventilated front seating, 6 airbags, ADAS, and more. The next-gen version of the SUV will retain these features.

The 2nd-gen Tata Nexon will carry forward the powertrain of its current-gen counterpart. There will be 3 engine options on offer. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 260Nm of torque. These engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual or AMT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.2-litre CNG model produces a maximum power output of 100hp and 170Nm of torque. It can only be paired with a manual transmission. The Nexon CNG has a boot space capacity of 321 litres, a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres, and a mileage of 24 km/kg.

Final Thoughts

We expect the new Nexon range to go on sale in the first quarter of 2027. Prices for the current lineup start at Rs 7.39 lakh and go up to Rs 14.40 lakh. The new model will demand a premium over these prices. Upon launch, it will rival the Hyundai VenueKia SonetRenault KigerNissan MagniteMahindra XUV300, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India.
