Volkswagen India records 58% sales growth in 2022

Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has recorded a sales growth of 58% in 2022 in comparison to the sales in 2021. Volkswagen’s range of SUVs – Taigun, Virtus, and Tiguan – saw a strong boost in sales in 2022, with the automaker offering some of the standout cars in every category. The automaker also expanded its retail network to 159 sales and 126 service touchpoints across 118 cities in India.

Volkswagen India: 2022 Highlights

Volkswagen India’s biggest highlight in 2022 was the VW Taigun receiving a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests, making it one of the safest SUVs in India. Volkswagen Taigun scored 29.64 points out of 34 in the adult occupant protection test. In the child occupant protection test, the SUV secured 42 points out of a possible 49. In the adult occupant protection test, the testers commented that ‘Driver’s chest showed adequate protection and the passenger’s chest showed good protection. Driver’s and passenger’s knees showed good protection.’ The body shell was rated as stable and was deemed capable of withstanding further loadings.

Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus also received 25+ awards and recognitions from esteemed media publications globally and in India. Volkswagen also expanded its network across cities such as Jammu, Agra, Delhi NCR, Nagpur, Kolkata, Arcot Road and Rajahmundry. In addition, 85% of the Volkswagen network is ISO 14001:2015 compliant, with a target to achieve 100% in 2023.

Commenting on the overall performance, Mr Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “The strong performance by Volkswagen in 2022 is a testament to the right brand and product strategy developed for our Indian customers. The Brand has witnessed many positive achievements, one of the biggest being the 5-star GNCAP on the Volkswagen Taigun. The successful close to the year 2022 makes us strive even harder towards making Volkswagen a loved brand, offering our customers the best of German-engineering and world-class services through our network. We are confident of making 2023 even bigger and better, as we accelerate and enhance the brand further, for our customers.”

Conclusion

On top of the milestones mentioned above, Volkswagen India also strengthened its pre-owned car business, Das WeltAuto (DWA). With a network of 109 outlets and 25 Excellence Centres, DWA has helped more than 26,000 customers in choosing the right mobility solutions. The automaker also bolstered initiatives like Service Cam, Service Cost Calculator and Service Value Packages.
