Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG launched at Rs 13.23 lakh

After announcing the SUV back in November 2022, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched the new Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG at a starting price of Rs 13.23 lakh. The higher-end G trim will cost buyers Rs 15.29 lakh. HyRyder’s Maruti cousin, Grand Vitara CNG, was launched earlier this month at a starting price of Rs 12.85 lakh. The higher-end Zeta trim of the Grand Vitara CNG costs Rs 14.84 lakh. Bookings for the HyRyder CNG have been underway since November at a token amount of Rs 25,000.

Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG: What’s on offer?

Similar to the Grand Vitara CNG, only 2 trims of the HyRyder are available in a CNG configuration. Out of the E, S, G, and V trims of the HyRyder, only S and G trims will get a factory-fitted CNG kit. These are equivalent to the Delta and Zeta trims of the Grand Vitara CNG.

Powering the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG is Maruti’s 1.5-litre K15C four-cylinder engine which is also found in the CNG variants of Ertiga and XL6. This engine produces a maximum power of 88hp and 121.5Nm, dropping down from 103hp and 136Nm when used in a petrol configuration. Like other CNG models on the market, the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG is offered exclusively in manual transmission. The fuel economy is 26.6km/kg.

There are no cosmetic changes on the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG except the CNG badging along the exterior. There is a 60-litre CNG tank in the boot, which eats up a significant portion of the boot space. The interior layout and theme remain the same as the petrol counterpart of the SUV. In terms of features, the G trim sports full LED headlights, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, 17-inch alloy wheels, and more. This makes HyRyder CNG the most premium CNG vehicle in the Indian market along with the Grand Vitara CNG.

Commenting on the launch, Mr Atul Sood, Vice President, Sales and Strategic Marketing said, “The launch of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder has been a significant milestone for us, in keeping with Toyota’s quest for promoting sustainable mobility solutions. Today, it gives us immense pleasure to announce the prices of its CNG variants for our customers, who have shown overwhelming interest in the product since the launch.

At Toyota, we are committed in making a shift towards low-carbon energy sources, with a vision to realise a ‘Carbon Neutral Society’. We are confident the competitively priced Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG variants will encourage widespread acceptance of environment friendly technologies and provide multiple options to customer to meet their diverse requirements.”

Conclusion

At Rs 13.23 lakh, the S trim of the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG is Rs 38,000 more expensive than the Delta trim of the Grand Vitara CNG. The G trim of HyRyder CNG is Rs 45,000 more expensive than its equivalent Grand Vitara CNG variant. In terms of rivals, the HyRyder CNG goes against the Grand Vitara CNG, along with petrol variants of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and MG Astor.
