Tata Tiago EV to come with fast charging and connected car tech

Tata Motors is gearing up for the debut of the Tata Tiago EV on September 28, just weeks after announcing that the EV is in the works. The announcement came on World EV Day, where Tata confirmed that Tiago will be the first of 10 EVs that the automaker seeks to launch in its next release phase. After the date of release, Tata has confirmed that the Tiago EV will come with fast charging and connected car tech.

It looks increasingly likely that the Tata Tiago EV will be underpinned by Tigor EV’s platform. This means that the Tiago EV could share Tigor’s base variant motor that produces a maximum power of 41hp and 105Nm peak torque. This engine comes in two battery pack options of 16kWh and 21.5kWh. However, according to recent reports, it seems that the Tiago EV will use the 26kWh battery pack found on the higher variants of the Tigor EV. This battery comes with supercharging capability, taking only an hour to charge up to 80% using a DC fast charger. Powered by the 26kWh battery pack, the Tiago EV could offer a range of up to 300km.

Tata Motors has further confirmed that the Tata Tiago EV will receive connected car tech. This includes Tata’s ZConnect technology which is already found in other Tata EVs like Nexon and Tigor. Tiago EV will also feature smartwatch connectivity. Higher variants are expected to come with premium leatherette upholstery.

Buyers can also expect the Tiago EV to come with cruise control and one-pedal drive technology. The one-pedal drive helps preserve the battery charge of the EV. Inside, the Tiago EV will feature blue highlights, which is standard across the Tata EV line.

Cosmetically, the Tiago EV will retain the looks of its ICE-powered sibling but will feature some blue highlights along the exterior as well, along with a shut-off grille and some EV branding. The dimensions will remain the same.

While the price will be revealed upon launch, the Tata Tiago EV will be Tata’s most affordable electric offering. Currently, Tigor EV holds that title, priced at Rs 12.29 lakh. Tata Tiago will also become the second car in India after Tigor to be offered in ICE, CNG, and EV variants, and the first electric hatchback.
