Tata Punch CNG goes into production, launch soon

After launching the CNG variant of the Altroz, Tata Motors has lined up the Tata Punch CNG as its next release. The CNG variant of the compact SUV was showcased at Auto Expo earlier this year along with Altroz CNG. Like the Altroz CNG, Punch CNG will also feature a dual-cylinder setup in its boot.

Tata Punch CNG: Everything you need to know

Apart from the CNG branding, there are no cosmetic changes to the Tata Punch CNG. The micro SUV looks exactly like its petrol counterpart. The iCNG badging will be placed on the tailgate of the SUV. Tata will add the CNG powertrain to the top-spec variants of the Punch, making it available with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, engine start/stop button, and more.

Tata Punch CNG features the automaker’s signature dual-cylinder setup for the fuel tanks. These cylinders have an individual storage capacity of 30 litres and are placed underneath the boot floor. This saves a lot of boot space, which used to be a big issue on CNG vehicles. Altroz CNG has a boot space capacity of 210 litres.

Powering the Tata Punch CNG is the 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that is also found in the petrol variant. This engine produces a maximum power output of 77hp and 97Nm of torque in a CNG setup. In a petrol configuration, this engine puts out 86hp and 113Nm. Punch CNG will only be offered in a 5-speed manual transmission.

Conclusion

Tata Punch CNG will be priced higher than its petrol-powered counterpart. Back in May, Tata Motors released the Altroz CNG at a starting price of Rs 7.55 lakh, going up to Rs 10.55 lakh. Upon launch, Tata Punch will rival Hyundai Exter CNG, Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG, and Brezza CNG.
