Tata Harrier crosses 1 lakh unit production landmark

Tata Motors has hit an important production landmark for its midsize SUV, Tata Harrier. The automaker rolled out the 1,00,000th unit of the Harrier yesterday. The SUV was launched back in 2019 and is available in 19 variants. Harrier flaunts a spacious cabin, with the capacity to seat 5 people. It also gets all the latest tech in its segment.

Tata Harrier: The journey so far

The Harrier range starts at Rs 15 lakh in India and goes up to Rs 24 lakh for the top-spec variants. The SUV was the first Tata offering in India to be underpinned by the OmegaArc platform which is based on the D8 platform used by Land Rover offerings. Like other Tata SUVs, the Harrier has received several special editions (like Dark, Red Dark, and Camo) over the years.

Powering Tata Harrier is a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine. This engine can produce a maximum power output of 170hp and 350Nm peak torque. 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions are also on offer. This engine is now compliant with the newest RDE norms.

Alongside updating Harrier’s engine to meet the RDE norms, Tata also upgraded the SUV with much-needed tech to bring it on par with the rest of the segment. The automaker expanded the ADAS package on the SUV to include functions like forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, and lane change alert. Tata Harrier also gets a 360-degree camera and panoramic sunroof.

The touchscreen infotainment system on the Harrier was also upgraded to a 10.25-inch unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Voice control features have also been integrated into the new infotainment console. On top of that, the new Harrier gets a 7.0-inch instrument cluster as well.

Conclusion

Tata recently introduced a new Dark Red edition of the Harrier in India. This new edition builds upon the all-black Dark Edition and adds red highlights on the brake callipers and the grille. The red highlights can be found inside the SUV as well. In India, Tata Harrier rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Hyundai Creta.
