Suzuki Jimny 5-door spied in Europe: Indian debut to be likely at Auto Expo 2023

When Suzuki Jimny first made its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2020, it immediately piqued the interest of the consumers. Now, after 3 years, it is expected that the new Jimny will make its debut at the Auto Expo again in 2023. The new 5-door Suzuki Jimny was recently spied in Europe as a part of the regular road test.

Suzuki Jimny spotted in Europe: Here’s what the spy shots reveal

The test mule that was spotted on the road was heavily camouflaged, but the prominent rear door lining all but confirms that the new Jimny will get 5 doors. The new 5-door Jimny will stand 3m850 mm long, 1m645 mm wide and 1m730 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm, which is significantly larger than the previous 3-door Jimny (2,250mm). Inside, the new Jimny will get a 9.0-inch infotainment screen, similar to the one we saw on the new Brezza.

Under the hood, the Maruti Jimny will get a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. This is similar to the new Maruti models like Baleno, Ciaz, and Ertiga. Generating a maximum power of 103hp and a torque of 137 Nm, this new engine may come with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Although an exact launch date hasn’t been announced yet, rumours suggest that the Suzuki Jimny could make its Indian debut at the Auto Expo in 2023. While the previous Jimny was offered in 9 monotone colours along with 4 dual-tone options, it remains to be seen what colour options the new Jimny will be made available in. The off-roader will rival Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
