Hyundai Exter: One step closer to launch

Hyundai has been dropping teasers for its upcoming SUV for the last few weeks. With successive teaser drops, the automaker has fully revealed the exterior as well the interior layout of the SUV. The Exter has a boxy design, characterised by the upright nose at the front and the upright posture at the back. It gets split LED headlamps with H-shaped LED DRLs. The tail lamps also feature an H-shaped design and are connected by a textured black panel.

Hyundai Exter shares its interior layout with the Aura and Grand i10 Nios. There are a few differences in the Exter that set it apart from the other two Hyundai offerings. Firstly, Hyundai Exter gets an all-black theme instead of dual-tone interiors. It also receives an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The 4.2-inch instrument cluster on the SUV supports multiple Indian languages. When it comes to seating, the Exter gets semi-leatherette upholstery and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.

The SUV also gets an electric sunroof, which is a new feature in this price segment. It also gets six airbags as standard across all variants. Hyundai has also confirmed that the Exter will receive a dashcam, making it the first car in its segment to get one. Other safety features on the Exter include Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Assist Control, and more. The top-spec trims will also get advanced features like headlamp escort, ISOFIX, auto headlamps, rear defogger, and more.

Under the hood, Hyundai Exter gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine can produce a maximum power output of 83hp and 114Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The Exter shares this engine with the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20, and Venue.
