Hyundai Exter: A closer look at the Interior and Instrumentation
At first glance, the interior of the Hyundai Exter looks similar to Hyundai Aura and Grand i10 Nios. There are a few significant changes on the Exter that are noticeable after close inspection. Hyundai has gone for an all-black theme on the Exter instead of dual-tone interiors. The Aura and Grand i10 Nios come with grey/black and bronze/black interiors. The Exter gets the patterned dashboard design from the Aura and Grand Nios i10.
Hyundai Exter receives an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The touchscreen infotainment system features built-in navigation as well. A 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster can also be found on the compact SUV. This instrument cluster has support for multiple Indian languages. The SUV gets semi-leatherette upholstery with three-point seatbelts for all three rear passengers. Hyundai has not offered centre armrests for the rear row.
In terms of features, the Hyundai Exter will come with connected car tech and multiple voice commands. It will also receive OTA updates for the infotainment system and integrated maps. Hyundai previously confirmed that the Exter will come with an electric sunroof and six airbags as standard across all variants. It will also be the SUV in its segment to feature a dashcam. This dashcam is capable of recording videos from the front and rear cameras.
Other safety features on the Exter include Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Assist Control, and more. The top-spec trims will also get advanced features like headlamp escort, ISOFIX, auto headlamps, rear defogger, and more.
Talking about the powertrain, the Hyundai Exter gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine can produce a maximum power output of 83hp and 114Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The Exter shares this engine with the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20, and Venue.
Hyundai has also confirmed that it will be offering the Exter in five variants – EX, S, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect. There are a total of 9 paint shades on offer – 6 single-tone and 3 dual-tone. Bookings for the compact SUV are currently underway at a token amount of Rs 11,000. Upon launch, Hyundai Exter will rival Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and Citroen C3.
