New Jeep Compact SUV Spied Upon: The First To Receive AWD Setup In Its Segment

After the recent launch of its Jeep Meridian SUV in India, the next model that the Jeep brand is reportedly working on is the new Jeep Compact SUV. The multinational automaker seems to have a sharp focus to tap into the potential of the growing compact SUV segment in the country. Test mules of the new Jeep Compact SUV have been spied upon recently, for the very first time.

The SUV can be seen heavily camouflaged in the spy shots. The features that are identifiable in its exteriors include black alloy wheels, a raised bonnet, and a wider front grille. According to sources, the design language of the new compact SUV will be constructed such that it can withstand off-road conditions as well.

What has already been confirmed by the automaker is that the new Jeep Compact SUV will be receiving an AWD (All Wheel Drive) configuration. It is likely to be the first compact SUV in the segment to get an AWD system. The model will be based upon a modified Renegade platform.

Speaking on front of its mechanical specifications, the Jeep Compact SUV is expected to be powered by an electrified powertrain. Hence, an e-AWD setup also seems a possible option on the offer. The company’s Europe-trim Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe models, which were introduced last year, also featured similar setups. These plug-in hybrid SUVs come with a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine which supplies power to the front wheels. The electric motor is mounted on the rear axle and delivers an output of about 190bhp and 240Nm of torque.

According to speculations in the market, Jeep might also make use of Citroen’s heavily localised 1.2L turbo petrol engine. This 1.2L engine is said to power the upcoming Citroen C3 hatchback model. Currently, the compact SUV auto segment in the country offers all SUVs with FWD layouts only. The upcoming compact SUV from Jeep, post its launch, will compete with Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, and others in the same segment.

Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming Jeep Compact SUV.
