Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift & Dzire to get strong hybrid powertrains

According to a recently surfaced report, Maruti Suzuki will be coming out with a strong hybrid powertrain for the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Swift Dzire in the first quarter of 2024. The change will be introduced in the next-generation models of the two cars. With a strong hybrid powertrain, the Swift and Swift Dzire will become two of the most economical cars in India.

Maruti Suzuki Swift and Swift Dzire hybrids will likely be launched in 2024

The Maruti Suzuki Swift and Swift Dzire are the automaker’s bestselling cars in the country. With an updated hybrid powertrain and enhanced fuel economy, the two compact cars will become even more lucrative to buyers in the affordable car segment. The cars have been internally codenamed ‘YED’.

With the success of Grand Vitara, Maruti is keen on expanding its strong hybrid lineup, bringing the powertrain to a segment where buyers prioritise fuel economy over a lot of other aspects. The automaker is already rolling out CNG alternatives to its popular ICE vehicles, with even the Grand Vitara set to get a CNG variant next month. The gaps left by diesel cars in Maruti’s lineup are being filled by other mileage-friendly options.

With a strong hybrid powertrain, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Swift Dzire could deliver a mileage between 35-40 Kmpl, making them the most fuel-efficient cars in the market. Currently, the Swift and Dzire offer a mileage of 22.56 Kmpl and 24.1 Kmpl respectively. The next-gen versions of the cars will receive a new 1.2-litre petrol engine instead of the current K12C engine. The new 1.2L engine has been internally codenamed Z12E.

Conclusion

Apart from enhanced fuel economies, the next-generation Swift and Swift Dzire will have reduced CO2 emissions due to the presence of a strong hybrid powertrain. This will also improve Maruti’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) rating. While the two cars will come at an increased price, Maruti is currently looking to reduce the cost of production of its hybrid cars. As of now, the difference between the pricing of the mild and strong hybrid variants of Grand Vitara is Rs 2.6 lakh, which Maruti is looking to cut down to Rs 1 lakh.
