Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG: Everything you need to know

Powering the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG is the company’s new 1.0-litre K10C engine that produces a maximum power of 57hp and 82Nm peak torque while running on CNG. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. When running on petrol, this engine generates a maximum power of 65hp and 89Nm peak torque. Maruti claims an economy of 32.73 km/kg. This is 1.53 km/kg higher than the previous CNG-powered S-Presso but 2.87 km/kg lower than the Celerio CNG. Celerio is currently the most economical CNG car in the country.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG comes with dual interdependent Electronic Control Units along with an improved fuel injection system. Given it is a CNG safety model, Maruti has increased its safety by offering new stainless steel pipes and safety switches. These new features will prevent leakage and help in cutting the engine off while refuelling.

There are no cosmetic or interior changes to the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG. It looks similar to its petrol counterpart but gets additional CNG branding. The 55-litre CNG tank is fitted in the boot of the car. Safety features include ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and seatbelt reminders.

Introducing the new S-Presso S-CNG, Mr Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The SUV inspired design of the S-Presso has ensured that it has found many takers for its prominent road presence. The S-CNG version will build on the success of the popular S-Presso, of which we have sold over 2.26 lakh units. The S-Presso S-CNG is sure to delight customers with its amazing fuel-efficiency and strong performance. We now have 10 S-CNG models in our portfolio, which are designed to reduce ownership cost and strengthen our commitment to a cleaner and greener environment.”

Conclusion

Maruti’s plan of adding new CNG variants to its lineup is in line with Govt. of India’s vision of reducing oil imports and increasing the share of natural gas in the primary energy sources. The Indian govt. is also planning on expanding CNG fuelling stations across the country. In the market, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG will compete with Renault Kwid and Alto K10, although neither of the two cars has a CNG variant yet.
