Maruti Suzuki Jimny: Everything you need to know

Out of the 30,000 bookings Maruti has received for the Jimny, 15,000 were made within the first week of its debut. The Jimny will be made available in two variants – Zeta and Alpha. The top-spec trims of the Alpha variants have received the most bookings. As a result, they have been fast-tracked for production and will be the first ones to be delivered.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny stands at dimensions of 3850mm x 1645mm x 1730mm with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm and a wheelbase of 2,250 mm. The 5-door variant retains the overall look of its 3-door counterpart while adding an additional quarter window at the back. The boxy design can be found on the 5-door version of the Jimny as well, and it also features circular headlights, a vertical slat grille, flared wheel arches and off-road tyres. The rear profile features the side opening door with a spare wheel mounted on it.

The lifestyle SUV is powered by Maruti’s K15B petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 102hp and 130Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been made available with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options.

In terms of features, Maruti Suzuki Jimny gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an Arkamys surround sound system, 6 airbags, Brake Limited Slip Differential, ESP with hill hold assist, a rearview camera, hill descent control, and ABS with EBD.

Conclusion

Maruti plans on exporting the 5-door Jimny from India, much like its 3-door sibling. The automaker will produce 1 lakh units of the SUV per year. 84,000 of these units will be reserved for the Indian market. Currently, there is currently a six-month waiting period for the manual variants and an eight-month waitlist for the automatic variants of the SUV. Upon launch, Maruti Suzuki Jimny will directly rival Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
