The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny has gone into production at the automaker’s manufacturing plant in Gurugram, Haryana. Maruti had scheduled to begin production for the Jimny in April, but a delay in plans has pushed the launch date to June. The lifestyle SUV was unveiled earlier this year at AutoExpo. Bookings for the Jimny went live soon after the showcase.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny: Here’s what you get
Maruti has rolled out the first Jimny from its production plant in Gurugram. The first unit of the 5-door lifestyle SUV featured a white paint shade. The 3-door Jimny that was sold overseas was also produced in the same facility. So far, Maruti has received 24,500 bookings for the Jimny, with 15,000 of these bookings made within the first week of its debut.
Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be announced in the first week of June. Deliveries will start rolling out by the following week. Currently, there is currently a six-month waiting period for the manual variants and an eight-month waitlist for the automatic variants of the SUV. The top-spec variants of Jimny will be delivered to the customers first.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny stands at dimensions of 3850mm x 1645mm x 1730mm with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm and a wheelbase of 2,250 mm. In terms of design, the SUV looks the same as its 3-door counterpart apart from the addition of two rear doors and a quarter window at the back. Powering the Jimny is the K15B petrol engine that puts out a maximum power output of 102hp and 130Nm peak torque. Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been made available with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options.
Inside, the Jimny gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an Arkamys surround sound system, 6 airbags, Brake Limited Slip Differential, ESP with hill hold assist, rearview camera, hill descent control, and ABS with EBD.

As mentioned earlier, prices for Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be revealed upon launch. The automaker plans on producing 1 lakh units of the SUV per year. 7,000 units per month will be reserved for the Indian market. Upon launch, the Jimny will rival the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
