Maruti Suzuki Fronx to launch in India next week

Maruti Suzuki Fronx has been confirmed for an Indian launch next week. The compact SUV was unveiled at Auto Expo in January. Bookings for the Fronx have been open since its debut at a token amount of Rs 11,000. The Baleno crossover will be sold exclusively through the automaker’s Nexa outlets.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Kickstarting the era of compact SUVs

The new Maruti Suzuki Fronx features an upright nose at the front. The split headlamp setup has been borrowed from the Grand Vitara. The SUV also gets NEXWave grille and NEXTre crystal block. The similarities don’t end here as the compact SUV also shares its bodywork with the Vitara. Fronx’s silhouette looks more muscular compared to Baleno’s and gives it a more sporty look.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx sits on 17-inch alloy wheels and gets additional body cladding along the sides. The alloy wheels have been newly designed for the Fronx and cannot be found on any other Maruti offering. Dimensionally, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx stands at 3,995m x 1,550m x 1,765m. The Fronx shares its underpinnings with the Baleno hatchback, resting on the Heartect monocoque platform.

Similarities with the Baleno continue inside the SUV coupe as the Fronx receives the same interior layout as its hatchback counterpart. The metal-like finish and chrome highlights give the Fronx a more premium look. It also gets a Black and Bordeaux two-tone colour theme for its interior. The SUV coupe gets a 9.0-inch Smart Pro Play+ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Head Up Display, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera.

Under the hood, Maruti Suzuki Fronx comes in two powertrain options. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine found in the 2017 Baleno makes a comeback on the Fronx. This engine unit produces a maximum power output of 100hp and 147.6Nm peak torque. This engine can be mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox.

Also on offer is the 1.2-litre K Series naturally aspirated petrol engine that can produce a maximum power output of 90hp and 113Nm peak torque. This engine can also be mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

Conclusion

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Fronx will launch next week. No details on pricing has been given yet, but we expect it to be priced between Rs 7-11 lakh. At this price range, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx will rival Tata Punch, Citroen C3, Hyundai Ai3, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
