Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will be phased out of the Indian market by April this year. The production of the midsize sedan will be closed by March. Sources claim that the declining sales of the Ciaz and the rising popularity of compact and midsize SUVs are the primary reasons behind this decision. The Ciaz was launched in India back in 2014. It replaced the SX4 as Maruti’s primary midsize sedan.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: Emblematic of a dying segment?
While Maruti has not provided an official reason for discontinuing the Ciaz, the sedan’s sales have been sharply declining since 2017. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz garnered 173,374 sales in FY18, its most successful financial year so far. In FY24, the sedan accumulated just 97,466 sales. In 2024, it sold just 569 units in October, 597 in November, and 464 in December.
Overall, sedans from all automakers account for just 10% of all the cars sold in India. Meanwhile, SUVs command a 50% market share. Maruti’s market share in the sedan segment currently lies at just 11%. This is in stark contrast to the 35-40% market share it held from 2015-2017.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is powered by the 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine. It puts out a maximum power of 103hp and 138Nm peak torque. This engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The mileage on offer is 20.65kmpl for manual variants and 20.04kmpl for automatic variants. The engine comes with Smart Hybrid technology.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz features a 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, a multi-information display, tilt steering, cruise control, rear reading lamps, and more. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS, seatbelt pre-tensioners, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seats, Electronic Brake Distribution, Electronic Stability Program, and Hill Hold Assist.

Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz start at Rs 9.41 lakh and go up to Rs 12.47 lakh. It rivals other midsize sedans like Volkswagen Virtus, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and Skoda Slavia.
