As we get closer to the launch of Mahindra Thar 2WD, the SUV’s brochure has been leaked online. The brochure lists all the technical specifications, colour options, equipment list, and variants on offer for the 2WD version of the Thar. The lifestyle SUV has been spotted testing a lot of times in the last month. The 2WD variants will be the new entry-level variants for the Thar, being offered at an affordable price.

Mahindra Thar 2WD: All the details
The Mahindra Thar 2WD gets no cosmetic changes apart from the lack of 4×4 branding. From the exterior, the lifestyle SUV looks identical to its 4WD counterpart. However, Mahindra has introduced three new colour options with the Thar 2WD – Blazing Bronze, Aquamarine, and Everest White. The former is also available on the XUV300 TurboSport. These colour options will also be made available for the rest of the lineup. There is no convertible soft roof option for the Thar, as it will only be made available with a hard top.
Inside, the Mahindra Thar 2WD sports the same interior layout as its AWD sibling, apart from a few minor changes. Firstly, the 4×4 gear selector is gone and has been replaced by some storage space. On top of that, it also gets the auto start/stop function and a lock/unlock button.
While Mahindra Thar is offered in two powertrain options, the entry-level variant will add a third engine option to the lineup in the form of a 1.5-diesel engine that produces a maximum power output of 118.5hp and 300Nm peak torque. This engine is also found on Mahindra Marazzo. The 2WD guise will also be made available in the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine variants of the Thar. All 2WD variants will come with six-speed manual transmission only.
A new low-spec AX (O) variant has also been added to Thar’s lineup and will be made available with both diesel and petrol powertrains. This variant gets 16-inch alloys instead of 17-inch alloy wheels. Mahindra has also stripped this affordable variant of the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, in-built speakers, TPMS, cruise control, and steering-mounted controls.Â

Conclusion
It has now been confirmed that the Mahindra Thar 2WD will be launched on January 9. The 2WD variant will receive tax advantages due to its smaller engine and sub-4m length. This will help keep the cost of the SUV low and Mahindra could even price it under Rs 10 lakh. The official pricing will be revealed upon launch. Currently, Mahindra Thar rivals Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny.Â
