Kia EV9 electric SUV unveiled globally

Kia has unveiled its first three-row electric SUV, Kia EV9, globally. The concept model of the EV9 was showcased at Auto Expo earlier in January. Being a three-row SUV, EV9 is the biggest electric vehicle from Kia so far. Full specifications and additional details about the Kia EV9 will be released later this month in a ‘digital premiere’.

Production-spec Kia EV9 finally breaks cover

The production model of the Kia EV9 looks consistent with the concept version we saw at Auto Expo earlier this year. Up front, the electric SUV gets simple lines and body surfaces. It also gets the ‘Digital Lightning Pattern Grille’ flanked by vertical LED headlamps. EV9’s signature ‘Digital Tiger Face’ features two clusters of small cube lamps adjacent to the headlamps. The ‘Star Map’ LED DRLs offer a new illumination experience. This is something we will be seeing in future Kia EVs as well.

The side profile of the SUV is marked by its butch stance and tapering roofline. The production model gets 21-inch wheels instead of the 23-inch wheels on the concept. The rear features simple clear-cut lines as well, and the tail lamps mirror the ‘Star Map’ design of the front lights.

Inside, the Kia EV9 receives a triple display unit – two 12.3-inch touchscreens integrated with a 5-inch digital display. The dashboard gets an open floating panoramic design and extends from the steering wheel to the centre of the vehicle. As mentioned earlier, Kia EV9 will feature three seating rows. It will be made available in six and seven-seat formats. One of the highlights of the SUV is that the middle row seats can be swivelled 180 degrees to face the third row. The third-row seats get cup holders as well as charging points.

Conclusion

Kia will launch the EV9 globally in the coming months. It is unlikely that the electric SUV will be launched in India. Currently, EV6 is Kia’s only electric offering in India, priced at Rs 59.95 lakh. The EV6 rivals Volkswagen XC40 Recharge and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India.
