Kia Carens facelift to be called Clavis, launch on May 8

The Kia Carens facelift is set to launch in India on May 8. The facelifted model will be named ‘Clavis’. Kia Clavis will be sold alongside the current Carens model. Kia has released the first teaser film for the Clavis, giving a glimpse of its silhouette and certain cosmetic details. The automaker is also working on an all-electric version of the Carens.

Kia Carens facelift: What to expect?

The teaser video for the Clavis MPV reveals a new front fascia that is in line with the new crop of Kia cars. The front grille is slimmer, and the LED headlamps have been redesigned. Along the sides, roof rails look fresh, and the alloy wheels get a new design. The silhouette of the MPV remains unchanged. At the back, the LED tail lamps are connected by a light bar. The Clavis MPV will have the same dimensions as the Carens.

The teaser for the Kia Clavis gives a glimpse of its digital instrument cluster. The ‘Collision Warning’ alert on the instrument cluster points towards the inclusion of an ADAS package on the MPV – a feature that is missing on the current-gen Carens. It will also get a 360-degree camera. While Clavis’ interior will be similar to the Carens, the dashboard finish and cabin controls are expected to undergo some changes. The current-gen Kia Carens sports features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seating, paddle shifters, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system.

Things will remain the same under the hood of the Kia Clavis as the MPV will carry forward the 3 powertrains from the Carens. The 1.5-litre NA petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 115hp and 144Nm of torque. This engine is linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 116hp and 250Nm. It is available with an iMT or a DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit generates 160hp and 253Nm. Buyers can choose a manual or torque converter gearbox with this engine.

Final Thoughts

The current-gen Kia Carens range starts at Rs 10.60 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.70 lakh. We expect the prices for the Kia Clavis to start at Rs 12 lakh. Its top-spec trim will cost more than Rs 20 lakh. Upon launch, the Clavis will rival MPVs like Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Rumion, and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, along with 3-row SUVs like Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector.
